As I recently went through the experience again I thought I would put my tips here for all. I have only used VODACOM as the service provider in fact not VODACOM directly but one of the good franchises. I had tried the 3G stores but they h
ave to sell you a standard sim and then convert wasting time and money. The best option is to get a micro sim activated in store and loaded with data if you are choosing the pay as you use option.
Once the sim is active and data loaded just test it as the ipn settings on the device must be set as must the ability for the sim to use these. This last part is done by contacting VODACOM data who then need the sim number and puk number to do this and it should work in a couple of hours.
Ensure that you know the phone number for the sim and keep it handy, if you need a top-up that is how you will do it. Once again pop into a franchise and buy data if you choose another vendor you will have to find away to convert the data. The franchise shops can immediately load your data. You can also sign up on the VODACOM web site and register the data sim to track usage if you are using in an iPad as yet I have found no other way to see my data usage.
Enjoy.
Photo and data storage
With my ever growing collection of photos and the increased size of these photographs, I find myself constantly looking for the best solution. Now let me start by saying having recently lost and replaced no less than 3 external WD drives I am still loath to think that this is the best solution.
I use Lightroom as the starting point of my workflow and have it setup to save to an internal drive which is dedicated to my photo storage. I have my PC set up in such a way that I dedicate 1 drive for the OS, 1 drive for the data, 1 for applications and finally 1 for media. This allows me to replace or upgrade my OS without loosing my data.
When downloading my photos from the card as I use a card reader as opposed to connecting my camera, the files goe directly to my media storage drive. If you follow the Lightroom recommendations however they suggest you connect an external drive and simultaneously save to the 2 drives. This article explains it very nicely. Also explaining the setup is this article.
Testing Blogsy
Blogsy is one of my newest blogging app finds for the iPad. Initially I was having issues authenticating, but within days of raising the issue a new update was available and working. So here is a test post adding one of my Flickr pics.
Loving the drag and drop option really great for photography blogs. To find the app search on AppStore or from the site
Tweeters to follow
As a tweeter I often get asked why do I use twitter…..well for me it is the instant news, for example I follow the traffic news in my area as this helps me identify issues before I set out on a journey.
I also find it a great resource to keep up today’s with my technologies ie photography, iPad and general IT.
I have just recently followed some iPad specific posters, they are:
@appstore
@appguide
@ipadnews
So give it a try and register then search for topics you want regular updates for and follow away.
